Thank you for joining TEDxYouth@Basel held by the youth for the youth of Basel!
TED talks are all about spreading ideas and interest. Our theme “Be active. Make a change!” was a wake up call for the youth not just to show interest, but also to actively participate in shaping our future. The talks were linked to our theme in different and fascinating ways: They make you rethink your own perspectives and and will open your eyes a bit more to the difficulties we, as the youth are facing. During the event we gave attendees multiple opportunities to make a change and inform themselves about options on where to get active in Basel.
Speakers
Aijan Muktar
Aijan is a 20 year old law student and activist for youth citizenship from Geneva. Among others she has been active in organizations such as the Parliament des Jeunes Genevois, the Red Youth Cross and the European Youth Parliament. Since June 2018, she is the Swiss Youth Representative to the United Nations.
Magdalena Oller
Magdalena is a 12th grade student at the International School of Basel. She is from Spain, but has lived in Switzerland for the past seven years. Her hobbies are playing volleyball and sailing. She is the co-head of MAST organization, which aims to raise awareness about sex trafficking.
Mariam Mekhail
Mariam is a 15 year old student in 10th grade focusing on Business and Law at the Swiss International School Basel. She is Egyptian and has lived in Switzerland for 14 years. Mariam is passionate about basketball, music, languages and psychology and is a regular participant in international MUN (Model United Nations) conferences.
Ankit Singhal
Ankit is a 15 year old student at the International School Basel and has lived in Switzerland for 6 years. In his free time he plays basketball competitively and trains in martial arts.He is an active participant in Model United Nations and loves to consider and debate difficult questions relating to politics.
David Pavlu
David is a law student at the University of Basel. Besides his studies he sings in a choir, is a skiing instructor and likes outdoor sports. He is politically active and could gain experiences in the Youth Parliament in Basel, in the European Youth Parliament, the Model United Nations or the Swiss Federal Youth Session. Furthermore he is chairperson of a youth party in Basel.
Nate Pressner
Nate is a student in his final year at Muenster Gymnasium and will graduate with dual Swiss Matura and International Baccalaureate diplomas. He has a passion for travel (FAVORITE location is Japan), sports (co-captain of his local football team) and digital transformation (two summers working in this exciting field at Roche). Nate plans to study Business Administration when he enters university.
Mathis Ebner
Mathis is a game design student at the Zurich University of the Arts since 2018. He finished High School in 2016 and started the alternative service (Zivildienst). In his free time he`s a Children/Teenagers Karate Instructor at Budo Arts Basel. Sometimes he's drawn to find answers to difficult questions with which many people struggle, such as: “Is there an efficient way to help you choose what you want to study?”

Welcome to the zoo. If Basel‘s music scene
was an egg, we would be the yolk. Since the Basel music scene is not an egg, we are the Flamingos. However that is just a name and stands for funky grooves, jazzy funk and bluesy mood. One, two, three, apple tree, let’s go Los Tros Flamingos!

Julia has always a lot to do and TEDxYouthBasel has to fit in somewhere between her ballet practice and the European Youth Parliament, she’s participating in. Somehow she still manages to help out with a lot of different tasks, like emailing venues or possible speakers.
Christian Dimitrov
christian@tedxbasel.ch
Christian is always up and running, rushing from one meeting to another. He’s good with numbers and therefore leads the finance department of one of the biggest student magazines in Basel, Quint. As one of the head organizers of TEDxYouthBasel, he always keeps a cool head and is a “master of communication”.
Hannah Oehry

Hannah is by far the most creative member of the team. She designs shirts, hoodies and bags as well as takes care of the layout of the student magazine Quint. Being part of the team from the beginning on, she is one of the head organizers for TEDxYouth@Basel and makes sure that the teams creativeness never dies, whilst taking care of our visuals.
